Welcome to First Hatch Fly Fishing. My name is Jim Plante and I am a guide and instructor for the Housatonic River Outfitters Inc. located in Cornwall Bridge, CT. I guide and instruct on two of the best trout rivers in New England which are the Housatonic and Farmington Rivers. The sport of fly fishing is my passion. Some people say it's a sickness or addiction. I simply say, "It's life! If your an advanced angler who is looking to learn a few new techniques or your an absolute novice who has never picked up a fly rod, I can provide you with the skills you need to become highly successful in this wonderful and exciting sport. Whether it's nymphing the riffles and runs, gently presenting dry flys to sipping fish, or banging the banks with streamers, I will do whatever it takes to catch "The Big One". I am also an avid fly tyer and am always coming up with new ideas to fool our river dwelling friends. This wonderful sport has taken me to some of the most beautiful places in and outside the U.S such as Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, Florida, Bahamas, and all of New England. I would love to get the opportunity to take you out and show you what the Housatonic and Farmington Rivers have to offer. I will work hard at not only teaching you the skills you need to be a successful fly fisherman and put you on top of fish, but I will make sure that your day is filled with the type of fun and excitement that only fly fishing can bring.
